In 2018, Mr Jones and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary by visiting Hawaii. We created many memories during the trip, but one which stayed with me was an up close encounter with some giant manta rays. It is summer in the land Down Under. Usually this means very hot and sometimes very humid days. Mr Jones and I took our new van out for a few days to a delightful spot near a creek. In the land Down Under, it is Summer. While people in the UK and the US are celebrating the shortest day of the year, we are experiencing the longest. While it is not as long as the midnight sun of Alaska that I was excited to experience this year, the sun is well and truly making itself known by around 4.30am. Maybe it is the time of the year, but in the last few days, I have been remembering times spent on the water. I miss the freedom of being on the ocean. This year is the year of land based travel for us. I once felt very tied to the deserts of Australia but somehow the Pacific Ocean washed away all traces of the red dirt and replaced it with hues of blue and grains of sand. It has been many years since we travelled inland. I am not sure if the freedom will be the same.
